This event, co-hosted by Environmental Defend Fund and the GEF/UNDP Humboldt II Project, will allow for a thoughtful discussion on the main issues related with Going from Science to Policy in the Humboldt current Fisheries. For that, a selected group of decision makers, scientists, fishing companies’ representatives, and NGOs from Chile and Peru, will be exchanging points of view on needs and mechanisms for achieving better and informative researches and science-based fishery management decisions, with emphasis on those shared fishery resources in the Humboldt current.

This side event is hosted by CORRIENTE XXI, an Erasmus+ Capacity Building project in the field of Higher Education funded by the European Commission. During this event, a selected group of scientists from Belgium, Peru and Ecuador will be exchanging knowledge and perspectives on 21 st century environmental concerns that both Peru and Ecuador are facing beyond their own borders; both from an ecological, management and policy viewpoint. Peru and Ecuador are not only neighbouring countries; they are also geographically and ecologically strongly interconnected. Climate, freshwater availability and access, marine and freshwater resources are not bounded by national borders, nor are the users and the communities depending on them. In addition, this event will also open the debate on the needs for matching and complementary views through joint research and for investing in research-based and multidisciplinary academic training for Young Career Professionals.
This session includes a keynote talk by Prof. dr. Tom Van der Stocken - Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium - 16:40-17:00
"Borders. I have never seen one. Global-scale and transboundary dispersal of mangroves."
